Conor MacNeill Mentions Jamie
The Siege of Jadotville similarly has a historical setting, as it depicts the real-life 1961 siege of a 150-strong Irish UN battalion under Commander Patrick Quinlan (Jamie Dornan) by 3,000 Congolese troops led by French and Belgian mercenaries working for mining companies. The film is an Irish/South African co-production, with the majority of the filming taking place in South Africa. MacNeill was quick to mention the hospitality of the locals. “They made us feel right at home. We were a small band of actors hanging out together, taking the bus to the shoot together, and back together. There was a really good bond in the group.”
MacNeill plays the radio operator “I’m the point of contact for the outside world. I’m the one that brings the rest both good and bad news, that has to tell them that they are on their own. Having us away from home instilled a bond and made it all feel more real.” As a result of his role in the film he spent a lot of time with lead Jamie Dornan. “That was great. Jamie’s a really good guy. We went from there to working together on The Fall a few months later, and it felt really natural.”

Guillaume Canet plays a French commander who sought to defeat Quinlan and his men.
Directed by Richie Smyth, a well-known commercial and music video director (U2, Bon Jovi, The Verve) and written by Kevin Brodbin (Constantine), Jadotville also stars Emmanuelle Seigner and Jason O’Mara with Mikael Persbrandt and Mark Strong.

Sam Keeley Talks About 'Jadotville', 'Anthropoid' and Mentions Jamie
Vulkan Magazine: Did you do a lot of research into the Congo for the war period piece Jadotville where you star alongside Jamie Dornan?
Sam Keeley: JADOTVILLE was and is a story that was close to my heart. Most of the men who fought in that unit were from my home county in Ireland so I felt a responsibility to portray the characters right. For research I met with two veterans who fought in the siege of Jadotville and spoke to them about their experiences. Their names are John Gorman and Noel Stanley. These men are the real thing, they held that town for five days against a huge enemy force and lost no one. They were kind enough to help me get ready for the role.
Vulkan Magazine: What was your experience of filming Anthropoid? Was it daunting true story to depict?
Sam Keeley: I had a great time shooting ANTHROPOID. Myself and Jamie (Dornan) went straight from Africa after JADOTVILLE to Prague to shoot it so that was a lot of fun. Working with Sean Ellis was a great experience too, he is a director who knows exactly what he wants and that confidence he has makes you feel safer about your choices as an actor. Of course there was a certain pressure being foreigners in the Czech Republic telling a very sensitive Czech story. Most of the crew were Czech and we had their blessing the entire time and they were very pleased with it. Sean would never do this story an injustice.

'Jadotville' is now officially complete
Maverick House, publisher of 'Siege at Jadotville' book, shared some good news on their Twitter account and announced that the post-production process of 'Jadotville' is now completely over. This means we're much more closer to see the movie!

Joseph Trapanese to Score ‘Jadotville’
Joseph Trapanese has signed on to score the upcoming war thriller Jadotville. The film is directed by Richie Smyth and stars Jamie Dornan, Guillaume Canet, Jason O’Mara and Mark Strong. The movie tells the true story of Irish Commandant Pat Quinlan who led a stand off with troops against French and Belgian Mercenaries in the Congo during in the early 1960s. Kevin Brodbin (Constantine, Mindhunters) has written the screenplay based on a novel by Declan Power. Alan Moloney (The Escapist, Albert Nobbs, Byzantium) is producing the project for Parallel Films. Jadotville is set to premiere later this year on Netflix.

'Jadotville' Director Richie Smyth Talks About The Movie
Richie Smyth’s picture finally tells the true story of the Irish UN soldiers who fought in the Congo during the 1960 Katanga disturbances. “The story has been forgotten about,” he says with great passion. “There were 150 Irish guys against 3,000 Belgian and French mercenaries. They were being led by this guy called Pat Quinlan, played by Jamie Dornan in the film. He is a smart clever man. He’s an unsung hero. They are all unsung heroes.”
