New Video Interview of Jamie and Cillian Murphy with NWCN
A significant but lesser known story from World War II is the basis for the intense new drama Anthropoid, starring Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan.
The movie is based on a daring plan to drop paratrooper assassins into Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia. The project was a ten-year labor of love for director Sean Ellis.
“The more I tried to find out about it, the more stuff I uncovered,” he said. “It became like this sprawling epic part of history that not many people know.”
Ellis took extra steps toward creating real-life accuracy by filming in many of the actual locations.
“Seeing where these men died, it affects you profoundly,” Murphy said.
The film is a departure for Dornan, who's best known for starring in 50 Shades of Grey as the title character, Christian Grey.
“In a weird way, I wouldn't be anxious at all about being typecast in those kind of roles because there's not many movies about that kind of subject matter, or roles that are similar to him,” Dornan said.
He also put rumors to rest about alleged star sightings, when film crews were in Seattle this past spring.
“We still shot it all in Vancouver but they did a lot of the aerial-like helicopter stuff in Seattle, so the crew went up before we started filming,” he said. “I actually have to say I have yet to be to Seattle.”

New Interview of Jamie with Associated Press
AP - Don't look for Jamie Dornan on social media. He's had it.
Specifically, he's had it with hate-mongering trolls he's encountered despite a hyper fan base for "Fifty Shades" and "The Fall."
"To be honest, I was very inactive on it in the last year," he said during a recent round of interviews for two upcoming films, "Anthropoid" and "The 9th Life of Louis Drax."
"The more public interest in you, the more horrible people become," Dornan said. "People start to say disgusting things about your family, about your children. What's the point?"

But don’t call it a war movie — because the stars say it’s so much more.
Toby Jones (as Uncle Hajský): “What is your mission ?”
Nazi Officer Reinhard Heydrich — is their mission.
Jamie Dorman (as Jan Kubis): “He’s executed thousands. Only Hitler is above him in the Nazi hierarchy.”
Marcin Dorocinski (as Ladislav Vanek): “Are you completely mad?”
Yep, they’re mad. That’s why Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy are on the hunt for Hitler’s third-in-command.
Cillian Murphy: “Two Czech soldiers were parachuted into Czechoslovakia, as it was at the time, and their mission was to assassinate him.”
Based on a true story — “Anthropoid” is shot from the point of view of the soldiers involved in the 1942 secret operation.
Jamie Dornan: “I play Jan Kubis and Cillian plays Josef GabcÃk. And they’re these two Czech soldiers who in real life were close, you know, they were close friends, I think, throughout out the mission. Essentially, they were the ones who did the main carrying out of the assassination attempt.
Cillian and Jamie loved being in the film.
Jamie Dornan: “It happened to be a story that grabbed me and it was a no-brainer, really.”
But filming scenes in the same spot where “Operation Anthropoid” actually played out in World War II more than 70 years ago was an even bigger plus.
Cillian Murphy: “We spent a lot of time in the actual church, and you walk and you see the bullet holes, and you see where the hand grenades got off. It’s very very humbling.”
Shooting got intense at times — but Jamie and Cillian found a way to handle it.
Jamie Dornan: “At the end of those days, you do often need some kind of release. You usually reward yourself with a drink at the end of the days.”
Cillian Murphy: “Best beer in the world Czech Republic.”

New Video Interview of Jamie and Cillian Murphy with ET Canada - 'Anthropoid' Press Junket
ET Canada - The cast and crew of the “Fifty Shades Of Grey” sequel were filming on location in the south of France when a man drove a truck into a crowd of Bastille Day revellers in a terrorist attack in July. Stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson and the crew were shaken but unharmed in the attacks that killed 85 people in Nice. Following the attack, it was business as usual on the set of “Fifty Shades Darker”.
“It’s a strange feeling. You feel sort of bereft, but you feel an odd sense of relief that your family are fine and it seems really frivolous the following day to be making something as silly as a movie,” Dornan tells ET Canada. “You’re contractually obligated to work the next day and you just have to get on with it but it was a very odd day to work, I have to say.”
The 34-year-old Irish actor has since wrapped production on the sequel, and is switching gears with his next project, “Anthropoid”.
Together with fellow Irishman Cillian Murphy, Dornan stars in the extraordinary true story of Operation Anthropoid, the WWII mission to assassinate Hitler’s third-in-command. The duo play two of the Czech soldiers tasked with carrying out the assassination order against SS General Reinhard Haydrich, the man responsible for the Final Solution.
