Miramax’s thriller The 9th Life of Louis Drax” which has been waiting-in-the-wings for distribution has finally landed. The film, which stars Jamie Dornan, Sarah Gadon, Aaron Paul, Barbara Hershey and Oliver Platt, will be released this fall via Lionsgate’s premiere. The project has had a long and tortured path to the screen. Miramax bought feature rights to the book for about $3M 12 years ago for Anthony Minghella who then joined with Sydney Pollack to develop it. After both died, Minghella’s son Max Minghella adapted the book. It is his screenwriting debut. The project started shooting in 2014 and was supposed to be released in 2015, but that was shelved. Now a Summit Entertainment title, it will be in theaters on Sept. 2, 2016 via a limited release.
The 9th Life of Louis Drax, directed and produced by Alexandre Aja, is based on the novel by Liz Jensen about a little boy (Aiden Longworth) who every year suffers through a violent act. After his 9th birthday, he falls off a cliff on a family picnic and ends up in a coma. When a doctor arrives, he starts to unravel the mysteries surrounding Louis’ experiences and is drawn into a mysterious web between reality and deception.
In addition to Aja, the film was produced by writer Minghella, Tim Bricknell, and Shawn Williamson and executive produced by Miramax’s Zanne Devine and Rosanne Korenberg.
