Jamie Adorns Translink Northern Ireland's Metro Bus

Translink Northern Ireland’s Metro Legends organized a campaign for public to choose local legends to feature on their new bus. Jamie and rugby player Rory Best got most votes. And today there was a ceremony to unveil the bus that Jamie and Rory Best adorn. Jamie's father Jim Dornan was also there for this special ceremony and according to Kendra, a fan who attended the ceremony and met him, Jim said "Jamie is very humbled" about that his face adorns a bus in his homeland.

Jamie Dornan and Rory Best have been named as the Northern Ireland legends honoured on a special double decker bus. 

Translink's Metro Legends campaign gave the public the chance to honour local heroes who have excelled in their industry, made a positive impact and shone the spotlight on Belfast for all the right reasons. 

And the winners got their faces on a custom liveried Metro bus. 

Jamie Dornan from Holywood Co Down found fame as a model before embarking on an acting career. 

He has starred in the hit BBC BAFTA nominated thriller The Fall and as Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey triology. 

Ulster Rugby and Ireland captain Rory Best is a rugby legend. 

Over his illustrious career Best led Ulster to the Heineken Cup quarter final for the first time in 12 years and also the Magners League semi-finals. 

Rory Best, a constant fixture at Kingspan Stadium in Belfast and rugby stadia around Europe. In 2016, Rory became the captain for Ireland, the first Ulster rugby player to captain Ireland's team since the late 1990s. He is known as a leader on the field. 

Rory said: "I am very humbled to be included on the bus. It’s a great honour to play for your province and country and now I can add this to the list. 

 Thank you to everyone that voted for me, I know my kids are really excited about it. I’m in South Africa now and after a few weeks off for some R&R I’ll be back in pre-season training, and in an Ulster jersey. I’ll have to take it to Kingspan." 

The pair were shortlisted with boxing champion Carl Frampton, Olympian Mary Peters, Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill and broadcaster and journalist Eamonn Holmes. 

The shortlist was compiled following a call to the public to nominate those they felt were an inspiration and ambassador for Belfast. 

An independent judging panel selected the shortlist ahead of the public vote. 

Voting closed on May 12 and on Monday the bus was unveiled. 

The campaign is part of Bus and Train Week which takes place from June 6 to 12.

Jim Dornan Talks About Jamie with Heat Magazine

Just two weeks ago, thousands of you voted Jamie Dornan as your No1 in heat's Hottest Hunks 2015. But Jamie hasn't got his head around it yet. Seeing as he’s one of the busiest men in showbiz, it's been tricky to pin him down (not in a Fifty Shades way) for a chat - so we asked his lovely dad Jim to give Jamie a call for us.

"I sent Jamie the Hottest Hunks copy to South Africa where he's filming," Jim exclusively tells heat.

"Winning these sort of things doesn't mean an awful lot to Jamie, but I knew he'd be pleased. When I called him, he told me, 'There be must be some kind of mistake!' But that's his usual modest self-effacement coming through.” Jamie's got a lot on his plate this year. He’s currently filming his latest movie Jadotville in South Africa, before he comes back to the UK to start working on series three of The Fall.

And he's got the Fifty Shades sequel, Fifty Shades Darker, to be get on with, too, so understandably Jim thinks his son deserves a rest.

"I hope Jamie will get a break at the end of this summer, they all work so much,” he explains.

"He's out in South Africa for a couple of months, so we've not spoken to him about Fifty Shades [Darker]. It's going to be interesting to see who the new director is (the original director Sam Taylor-Johnson quit in March]. As for The Fall, Jamie got really into the part [of killer Paul Spector]. The first time he was over in Belfast filming, I think I only saw him about twice in six months because he really did lock himself away to get into the role. I watched the first two series and they were really good, but I haven't a clue what happens next." A holiday, we hope...

Jamie Dornan’s dad has told how he enjoyed steamy flick Fifty Shades of Grey in which his son stars.

And professor Jim Dornan said he couldn’t be prouder of his famous son.

Jim told RTE Radio 1: “I know it’s a weird thing to say about your son but he’s one of the nicest people I know. He a good guy.”

The father-of-three went to the opening night of the movie with Jamie in the lead role of Christian Grey, the eponymous billionaire and S&M aficionado.

“I thought the director (Sam Taylor Wood) did very well. You can only work with the materials you’re given, which is a great line.

One of Northern Ireland’s most eminent obstetricians, Jim has delivered up to 6,000 babies.

But he has accepted that everywhere he goes now he is known as ‘Jamie Dornan’s dad.’

“The best part of the whole thing is the world now knows how to spell Dornan.

“I spent 40 years spelling it correctly to people,” he told Ray D’Arcy.

Prof Dornan also gushed about his only son, who is the baby of the family.

“He is quite influencial in the family and always was. He’s solid, a very grounded boy. A good lad.

“He’s sisters are very proud of him - we all are. He’s held himself well.”

He also told how he was supportive of Jamie’s acting career from the beginning.

“It was a surprise when he did go down that line but we gave full encouragement to him because there has been a few people in our family that probably should have gone down that line, like my sister for example.

“My parents implied ‘no.”

Football fanatic Jim has come up with a new idea called ‘Circular Soccer’ that has already been sold to Fifa.

“Most field sports you play end to end this one you turn the whole thing around 180 degrees and it’s played towards the middle.

“So the ball is never out of play, there’s no throw ins, no corners. You don’t have a goal keeper but everything else is just soccer.”

About "Fight on for Annie" (you can find more info there)

Fight on for Annie was set up in memory of Anne O’Neill who lost her battle to pancreatic cancer on the 30th January 2014, aged 54. Anne was the beloved wife of Tom and mum of three children, Sinéad, Fergal and myself, Gráinne. 

Mummy was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer in June 2013 and was given between 4 and 6 months to live. Mummy fought the disease for seven months, she was determined to beat pancreatic cancer and reminded positive throughout her battle. 

Unfortunately the cancer was too aggressive as it was stage IV which meant that it had spread from her pancreas to her liver, lungs and back. 

I have set up this fund to honour and commemorate my mummy’s life, she was not only a mum but my best friend. 

My mummy was such a caring and giving person, always putting her children and others' needs in front of her own. I am forever thankful and blessed to call her my mummy, she is and always will be my inspiration and I want to continue to raise money and campaign in her memory. 

I want to help prevent other families from having to experience this horrible disease and heartbreaking statistics. I want the survival rates to give people hope, not to fill them with fear and remove all hope for their loved ones who have pancreatic cancer. This is why I have founded ‘Fight on for Annie’.

Jim Dornan: "Son, I'm Very Proud of You"

Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan is haunted by the childhood loss of his mum – and his four best friends.

And he has been a huge emotional support to his father Jim, who is battling leukaemia.

Jim revealed: “Jamie’s ­incredibly sensitive. If somebody’s hurting, he will hurt the most. Watching his mother die of pancreatic cancer over a year and a half made him a very soulful boy.”

Jamie was just 16 when his mum died. Soon afterwards, his four best friends were killed in a car crash. Speaking from his Belfast home Jim, a professor, said: “I was very honest while his mother was dying.

“We didn’t take away hope, but I knew time was limited. It made him very strong.

“Jamie’s first words when I told him I had leukaemia were, ‘You’re going to be OK dad, aren’t you?’ He gets on with things – a deep, thinking person.

“He and his then girlfriend gave me a present they’d made me together.

“It was a little blue and yellow ceramic plate that said ‘Hope’. That’s the colours of our favourite football team, Bangor Football Club.”

Jim, who lives with second wife Samina, added: “At first I was very afraid and ill. But Jamie flew home a lot, he’d fetch me to watch gigs with his band, Sons of Jim.”

Of Jamie’s childhood, he said: “He had a very outdoor life – a good Scout. When he was little his sisters used to dress him in their clothes and wheel him around in a doll’s pram. He grew out of that quickly!

“When he got Christian Grey, I flew to London and we had lunch with the whole family. I said, Son, I’m very proud of you.”

Jim Dornan Talks About Jamie

Jamie Dornan portrays a sexual sadist in the feverishly anticipated film adaptation of E.L. James’s erotic novel, Fifty Shades Of Grey, but the actor is an ardent feminist, according to his father.

"Jamie might be playing Christian Grey, but he has inherited a total respect and commitment to women and women’s rights," Belfast obstetrician Jim Dornan tells me.

"We are all that way in the family. Jamie and my two daughters are very pro-women — I have influenced them  with that."

Jim adds of his dashing 32-year-old son: "As with the role Jamie’s playing, a lot of people are into all sorts of things, and I don’t think we should knock anything that people consent to."
