New/Old Interview of Jamie from Alfred Dunhill Links Championship (October 2015)
Golf Monthly - Dornan, who has obligingly posed for photographs with adoring female fans between every green and tee, has not had such a good day, unfortunately. Luckily for him, he is still buoyed by his exploits on the 18th hole of the Old Course at St Andrews in the first round.
"The 1st and 18th on the Old Course are the only tee boxes in the whole tournament where you play from the same place as the pros," explains the 33-year-old actor who plays off a handicap of 15 at Royal Belfast, "so you can test yourself against them. Peter Uihlein, my partner, is a massive hitter, and he drove the green. Ross Fisher came up just sort. I knocked it out of the blocks and was about seven feet short of the Valley of Sin.
"The grandstand was pretty packed," Dornan continues, visibily swelling at the memory. "It was a beautiful, sunny day and I just told myself to leave a makeable birdie try." His putt up an through the infamous hollow was traveling at pace when it hit the flagstick and dropped in for an eagle two. "I've been carrying that feeling with me for the last couple of days," he smiles.
"This is dream stuff," confirms Dornan, who is playing in his second Alfred Dunhill Links. "When you're a kid, every time you play golf you made it something bigger than it was - this putt for The Open, that sort of thing. This is the closest you'll ever get."
